All faculty and staff are welcome to attend the next College of Arts and Sciences Colloquium to celebrate the work of Jamie O’Neil, associate professor of digital media arts. The colloquium takes place on Thursday, February 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge.

Do you hear strange sounds emanating from the laboratories of Science Hall?

It’s Electroskip™, a wearable device that generates music from human movement. Electroskip™ was created through interdisciplinary research between three departments: digital media arts, computer science and physics. It evolved into a patent-pending product used by dancers and DJs in live performances, as well as a technology used by physical therapists in health applications.

In this talk, co-inventor and co-founder of Electroskip™ Jamie O’Neil discusses how art and entrepreneurship converged in the inventing of Electroskip™, as well as the challenges and possibilities for innovation here at Canisius College. Finally, through a broader re-definition of “technical platforms,” the story of Electroskip™ is a prime example for the sharing and distribution of many technical, app-driven or creative research projects in the digital age.

Refreshments will be served! Please join us for this event!
