On Saturday, January 27, Barbara Burns, PhD, professor of teacher instruction/differentiated education, hosted the third annual Mathematics Professional Development Conference for teachers of grades pre-K through 12 held in Science Hall. The theme of this year’s conference, “Doing the Math,” was addressed by keynote speaker Joy Guarino, assistant professor of dance at Buffalo State College. Her talk was entitled “Learning Math with the Mind and Body” and Guarino discussed how math and dance/movement are tied together. The theme was carried throughout the day at 22 breakout sessions. One hundred thirty teachers and teacher education students attended the event.
