Canisius in the News

The home of Kathleen Contrino and her husband, Ronald Winkelman, was featured as The Buffalo News “Home of the Week” on Tuesday, January 29. Kathleen is an assistant professor in the Sociology, Criminal Justice and Environmental Studies Department. She and her family are committed to environmental sustainability. They built their home in 2013-2014 to demonstrate energy efficient building design, renewable energy sources and sustainable land management.

Canisius Connect

In anticipation of today’s (Wednesday, January 31) launch of Canisius Connect, the Office of Alumni Engagement would like faculty and staff to know more about the program in case alumni have questions.

Canisius Connect is an online platform that allows alumni to help mentor and network with current students, as well as other alumni – virtually and on their own time. We are launching this program in direct response to the consistent question we receive from our alumni: “How can I help?” Now, alumni have the flexibility to help their fellow Griffs when it’s convenient for them.

An email invitation will be sent today to all alumni with an email address on file. The email will come from CampusTap and contain a link to click through to get to the website. From there, alumni can create a password and login and enter their professional information. They will be prompted to take a brief personality quiz to help students and other alumni users determine personality fit when reaching out for advice. Please note that Google Chrome is the recommended browser to support Canisius Connect.

This platform will be as good as the amount of active users we secure. We need your help with this endeavor. The faculty/staff launch takes place just two weeks later on February 14. You will receive an email invitation to Canisius Connect on that day. We ask that you follow the instructions in it and take the time to create your profile as faculty/staff are most often important influencers in a Griff’s professional journey.

If alumni have questions about the program or did not receive the email invitation, please let us know.  We will make sure that we have the correct email address on file for them and resend the information.

For more information, please check out website here.  Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Canisius Food Pantry

The Campus Ministry food pantry is now open.  Located in Old Main 209 (in the hallway leading toward Churchill Tower), the food pantry is part of an initiative to ensure that all members of the Canisius community have access to the resources they need. The pantry is unlocked during business hours for anyone who needs to come in for food. Furthermore, there is a “no questions asked” policy in effect regarding an individual’s personal need for the items.

We will continue to accept donations of nonperishable, unopened food items as well as meal cards (gift certificates to restaurants, grocery stores, etc.) for the campus ministers to hand out at their discretion. Please bring donations to Old Main 209 and leave the items on the shelf. We especially need donations of food high in protein (beans, canned tuna or chicken, nuts, etc.). Thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration! If you have any questions, contact Darby Ratliff in Campus Ministry at Ext. 2875 or at ratliffd@canisius.edu

Campus Ministry Classes

The Campus Ministry Office is gauging interest from the campus community for a confirmation prep class and a class for those who would like to become Roman Catholic. Based on the response, we will finalize class dates, times and locations that best suit the needs of our participants.

The confirmation prep program consists of four, 90-minute  sessions conducted by Deacon Gary Andelora. Bishop Richard Malone administers the Sacrament to candidates at the 7:00 p.m. Mass in Christ the King Chapel on Sunday, April 15.

In addition, if you would like to become a Roman Catholic (or would just like more information), the Campus Ministry Office conducts classes for students who wish to join our faith community here at Canisius. For more information about either program, contact Deacon Gary at Ext. 2425 or andelorg@canisius.edu.
