Saturday is Jam-Packed with Sports Activities

Cheer on your favorite Griffs team this weekend

If you want a full selection of Canisius sports action, then this weekend is for you. Five teams are home this Saturday, October 21 at four different venues.

At 1 p.m., women’s volleyball faces off against St. Peter’s in the Koessler Athletic Center. The Griffs own a 4-5 MAAC record and are in 7th place.

It’s Senior Day, the final home game for six seniors, during women’s soccer on Saturday. They play Quinnipiac at the Demske Sports Complex at 1 p.m.  Canisius is 7-7-2 overall, while Quinnipiac is in 4th place in the MAAC.

At 3 p.m. on Saturday, men’s and women’s swimming & diving compete against the University of Rochester at ECC’s Flickinger Center. Diver Travis Wright᾽18 is a potential NCAA DI Qualifier.

Later Saturday night, at 7:35 p.m., hockey faces off against Colgate at HARBORCENTER. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for the Pink Out for American Cancer Society. Call 888-TIXX for discounted faculty and staff tickets. Nick Hutchison ᾽20 was named the AHC Player of the Week on Monday.

Last but not least, the women’s volleyball team hosts Rider on Sunday, October 22 in the Koessler Athletic Center at 1 p.m.

Con-Con: A Public Discussion on New York State’s Proposal One

Should New York hold a Constitutional Convention?

On Monday, October 23, 7:00 p.m. at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site, 641 Delaware Ave, Counterpoint will present a live discussion panel, sponsored by the Canisius College Frank G. Raichle Pre-Law Center and the League of Women Voters, on New York State’s Proposal One, and the pros and cons of holding a Constitutional Convention.

Christopher Bopst, chief legal and financial officer, Sam-Son Logistics, Inc.
Jeremy C. Toth, second assistant county Attorney, Erie County

BPO on Campus Next Week!

Award-winning guitarist to solo

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) comes to campus next week!  On Wednesday October 25, the BPO will perform in the Montante Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. with soloist Alec Holcomb, the 3rd prize-winner of the 2016 JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Competition.  Stephan Sanders, the BPO’s resident conductor, will lead the orchestra in a performance of Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni, Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 in B-flat.  Tickets for this performance are $25 general admission and $12 for students and can be purchased online here or at the door.

As part of Alec Holcomb’s performance at Canisius College, he will also give a masterclass for area classical guitar students on Tuesday, October 24 from 3 – 4:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Montante Cultural Center’s newly dedicated Andy Anselmo Gallery.  Tickets for this event are $10 and can be purchased at the door.  Canisius College student admission is free.  This masterclass has been made possible through a gift from the Britton Family, which sponsors a musical class each year at Canisius.

COLI Brownbag Meetup

Bring Your Lunch and Share Tech Tips

The Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI) hosts its next Brown Bag Meetup on Wednesday, October 25 at noon in Old Main 115.  We’ll be discussing Google Apps: Drive, Docs, Forms and even YouTube or Calendar.

On most Wednesdays in the fall and spring semesters, COLI hosts a Brown Bag Meetup.  Keep an eye on The Dome for announcements of upcoming specific meetups. Bring your lunch!  Meet with other Canisius faculty and staff to share tech tips. Share your latest project, completed or otherwise, for feedback and suggestions.  Show us what you’re doing in your classes or in your research, using web-based technologies.  As always, COLI staff will be on hand to answer questions, and share the latest tips, resources and other things we’ve recently discovered.

Halloween Party for Children of Faculty and Staff

Come trick or treat in Dugan Hall

Faculty and staff and their children are invited to join us for a complimentary dinner, candy crawl and a haunted house on Monday, October 30 at 4:30 p.m. Please RSVP to Mary Braun in HR at braun5@canisius.edu by October 25 for your food voucher. We will have students handing out candy for the children in Dugan Hall along with games and activities on every floor!
