Busy Homecoming Weekend for Athletics
Catch men’s soccer and women’s volleyball
A trio of events highlight this weekend’s homecoming slate for the Athletic Department.
Your surging men’s soccer team plays the feature game on the weekend with a contest against Binghamton on Saturday, September 23 at 7 p.m. The Griffs are now 6-1 after sweeping a daunting road trip with 2-1 victories at both Cornell and Rutgers. The Griffs six-game winning streak is the longest in school history. Free soccer scarves will be given to the first 100 fans who can prove they follow the men’s soccer team on Twitter @GriffsSoccer. Canisius was ranked third in the Northeast prior to their win at Big 10 member Rutgers.
The women’s volleyball team looks to build off its first conference win of the season last weekend at St. Peter’s when they host a pair of MAAC matches. Saturday afternoon Canisius meets Siena, while on Sunday, September 24, the Griffs host Marist. Both matches start at 1 p.m.
Both the soccer game and the volleyball battle against Marist will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

ArtsCanisius Piano Recital
Event showcases award-winning pianist
ArtsCanisius and the Stecher & Horowitz Foundation present pianist Mackenzie Melemed in a performance on Sunday, September 24 at 2 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. This annual recital presents young pianists, at the beginning of their musical careers, who have received a prize at the bi-annual New York International Piano Competition. This concert is free and open to the public.
Melemed was a prize-winner at the 2012 New York International Piano Competition. Since then, he garnered first prize at the Maj Lind International Piano Competition in Finland this year. Melemed is also the recipient of the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition, awarding him a performance in the fall and a full-tuition scholarship at the Julliard School of Music where he studies with Robert McDonald.
Melemed will perform works by some of the keyboard’s greatest composers including Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Liszt and Scriabin.

Free DACA Renewal Clinic
Legal assistance available to those in need
The Community Justice Clinic at the University at Buffalo is holding a free legal clinic on Monday, September 25 from 9:00 a.m. – 2 p.m. for community members who may need assistance applying for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewal. The clinic will be held in O’Brian Hall, Room 507 on the North Campus.

Canisius College Video Institute to Premiere “Gym Jones”
Alumni showcase talents in original film
The Canisius College Video Institute is proud to premiere the alumni short film “Gym Jones” on Monday, September 25 at 7 p.m. in the Science Hall Commons.
The film was produced by Christopher Collins ᾿14 and Erin Gaddi ᾿14. Collins moved to Los Angeles after working full-time for two years as a graphic designer for the NFL. He teamed up with Gaddi to make the original film, which showcases both of their talents.
“Gym Jones” is a comedic film about a confused gym rat named Phil who owns a fitness brand.

Bring your lunch and share what you do with web-based technologies
The Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI) hosts its next Brown Bag Meetup Wednesday, September 27 at noon in Old Main 115. Keep an eye on The Dome for announcements of upcoming specific meetups. On most Wednesdays in the fall and spring semesters, COLI hosts a Brown Bag Tech Meetup. Bring your lunch! Meet with other Canisius faculty and staff to share tech tips. Share your latest project, completed or otherwise, for feedback and suggestions. Show us what you’re doing in your classes or in your research, using web-based technologies. As always, COLI staff will be on hand to answer questions, and share the latest tips, resources and other things we’ve recently discovered.
