Bouwhuis Library News and Happenings

moses-ico.gif

We have been busy at the Library over the summer, and now invite everyone to come see our changes.  In the Lower Level, bound periodicals are now located in the stacks, and the metal shelving was removed, opening the main space into a comfortable place to collaborate, study, or relax. There is ample seating, offering small discussion areas as well as study carrels.

New Acquisitions continue to arrive. Please check the main Library home page for lists of new book and DVD arrivals. The list changes frequently, so check often. Faculty should contact their Library Liaison about requesting acquisitions in their disciplines.

Library Instruction will continue as usual. Any faculty member wishing to have a class session with a member of the instructional staff can make a reservation on the form here. We have access to a set of tutorials designed to supplement Information Literacy instruction. Any faculty member who is interested in accessing the tutorials should contact Pat Coward at cowardp@canisius.edu  or call Ext. 2839.

Course Reserves can be requested by faculty via the Library website here. Items that may be on reserve for a class include: books, videos, course readers, textbooks and recordings. Due to copyright laws, course reserves are removed at the end of each semester. Anyone who has put items on reserve in previous semesters should renew the reserves or pick up their personal copies.

Interlibrary Loan and Connect NY continue to be part of our services to faculty and students. If we do not own a copy of an item, faculty and students can request it via these links: Interlibrary Loan or Connect NY. They may ask for your Canisius log-in information.

Reference Consultation is also available to students and faculty. Appointments can be made for a one-on-one meeting with a librarian who can assist with beginning the research process, finding and using information resources, and presenting the results of research. Appointments can be made in person at the Reference Desk and online: http://library.canisius.edu/book-a-librarian.

Special Events are coming in September. Keep an eye out for details on the annual Faculty Tenure, Promotions and Retirement Reception, on September 15 and Banned Books Week coming later in the month.

Regular Hours are now in effect. They are: Mon-Thur. 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.; Friday 7:30-8:00 p.m.; Saturday 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 am.

Celebration of Service Survey

As part of our ongoing efforts to receive faculty and staff feedback regarding Canisius College’s annual Celebration of Service, as well as to increase attendance at this event, the Engagement Team has created a brief Celebration of Service survey. By taking a few minutes to answer these simple questions, you allow us to create an event that caters to the needs of the entire Canisius community. The survey can be found here.

Please contact Mary Braun at  Ext. 2240 or at braun5@canisius.edu with any questions.
