A group of 10 Canisius students are participating in a three-week international teaching internship in Oviedo, Spain, at Colegio San Ignacio (CSI). Living with families from CSI, the students are working as English language teachers and are immersed in Spanish culture while in the beautiful old world city of Oviedo.
The group organized the ‘first edition’ of American Day at CSI. Spanish students spent a day surrounded by American culture, traditions, stories and activities. The school was dripping with American decor. They danced and sang karaoke to tunes such as to “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springstein and “Surfin’ USA” by the Beach Boys.
The grand finale of the internship is a three-day English immersion camp held at a spectacular Jesuit compound in the coastal town of Celorio. This year, 75 fourth-grade students will attend. Canisius students facilitate all aspects of the camp, stressing English language acquisition.
