Get to Know…

Signorino head shot_fall 2016“My heart feels most at home at Canisius. I’ve been ruined for life (an old slogan from the Jesuit Volunteer Corps) by the countless opportunities I’ve had to grow, learn and be supported as a student, teacher, colleague and neighbor to Canisius. I love creating transformational, educational opportunities for our community to grow closer to the person that God means them each to be.”

Sarah E. Signorino
Assistant Director of Campus Ministry

Nobody is more surprised than Sarah Signorino that she has been working in Campus Ministry for more than 10 years. Her graduate assistant position in Campus Ministry turned into a long career.

Sarah’s innovative leadership has led the Campus Ministry Department in developing new domestic immersion programs and leading the Canisius delegation to the Ignatian Family Teach-in for Justice and the Ignatian Social Ministries Conference. Sarah also works closely with the UNITY Club (which Sarah founded as a student), is involved with the Always Our Children retreat where she leads the women’s retreat, develops the Campus Ministry Immersion Programs for incoming freshmen and serves as assistant director of the Be the Light Institute.

Sarah states that her biggest achievement is being a mom to Mary and Clare, her two young daughters with her husband Jerod. The pair met in Dr. Michael Forest’s philosophy class so many years ago!

Did you know…Sarah is an advanced-certified SCUBA diver. Sarah is also a three-time alumna of the college receiving a bachelor’s degree in English in 2004, a master’s degree in college student personnel administration in 2008 and a bachelor’s in religious studies and political science in 2012. She also has an incredible love of donuts and thoroughly enjoys organizing clutter.

Be the Light Institute Application Deadline Extended

2017-04-10-rogers-email

The application deadline for the Be the Light Youth Theology Institute at Canisius College has been extended! Applications will now be accepted on a rolling basis through early June. The Institute will take place from July 10-15, 2017.

Recent growth in Buffalo has caused this “City of Light” to start shining brighter and brighter.  But where in our city does this light need to shine even more?  Where are the dark corners of injustice in our city that call out for our response?  How do the Catholic faith and Jesuit spirituality inform approaches to understanding and rectifying such injustices? Participants will be exploring these questions and more with Canisius faculty, staff, alumni and undergraduate leaders.

Please invite any current high school sophomores and juniors to apply for this opportunity to live and learn on our campus!  Applications and more information are available on our website: http://www.canisius.edu/btli.

We are pleased to offer a $100 discount for children of Canisius faculty and staff!  Further scholarships and travel assistance are also available.

For more information, please contact us at BeTheLightInstitute@canisius.edu.
