Kevin R. Hardwick, PhD, professor of political science, offers expert comment regarding President Trump’s executive order on immigration.   Hardwick said in an interview with WIVB TV Channel 4 that it’s actually beneficial that no communities in Western New York have the official title of “sanctuary city,” as President Trump has said he is cutting federal aid to cities with these titles.  See more here.

Children’s Author and Hip Hop Artist Come Together to Headline Black History Month Celebration

The Canisius College Academic Talent Search (ATS) Program presents its annual Black History Month celebration on Thursday, February 16 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Zion Dominion Global Ministries, 895 North Forest Rd. The program is free and open to the public.

Munson Steed, CEO of Steed Media Group and children’s book author, and Jacob Latimore, an actor and R&B hip hop artist, are the guest speakers.

The theme of this year’s program is “Images of Greatness, Be the Best of Your Generation.” Throughout the day, ATS will host workshops and there will be informational stations set up from various community organizations. Topics will include educational and career opportunities, financial literacy and mental health. Approximately 600 Buffalo high school students are expected at the event.

COLI’s Google Apps for Education Meetup

Today, January 31 at noon, the Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI) will host the first in a series of meetups for those interested in Google Apps for Education.  Bring your lunch! We’ll meet in Old Main 119, where computers, internet and collaborative spirit are plentiful.

If you use Google Apps to teach, help students, make administrative work less burdensome or facilitate research, please show us!  Bring your questions for the group!  Complete novices, casual users and power users all welcome!

Women’s Hoops Back to the KAC

Your Canisius women’s basketball team returns to the Koessler Athletic Center (KAC) this week for a two-game homestand. The Griffs host Manhattan on Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. before battling Iona on Saturday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m.

These games are crucial to the Griffs’ hope for a first-round bye in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tourney. Manhattan is currently behind Canisius in the conference standings while Iona is just ahead.
