IMG_0632“What I enjoy most about teaching at Canisius is seeing my students develop into communicative and expressive singing artists.”

Melissa Thorburn has had a stellar career singing for internationally famous organizations: the Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the National Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra – just to name a few – as well as our own Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. She worked with some of the most outstanding conductors of our time, including Charles Dutoit, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Roger Norrington and Richard Hickox. For the last 15 years, she carefully trained singers at Canisius, singers who began their careers in starring and other roles in the productions of Nickel City Opera, Buffalo Opera Unlimited, Opera-Lytes, the Lancaster Opera House and other performing arts companies.

Did you know…Melissa’s favorite hobby is traveling to places she’s never visited. She has lived in seven states and in France where she studied piano for two years as part of a graduate fellowship. Melissa is pictured above in Gaspésie National Park located in Quebec, Canada.
