Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception this Thursday

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary will be celebrated on campus this Thursday, December 8, in Christ the King Chapel at 12:05 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The Immaculate Conception is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Roman Catholic Church, which makes it a day that Catholics around the world recognize to be especially meaningful to their faith lives. On this day, we recognize that Mary, the future Mother of God, was born without sin in anticipation of her acceptance of Christ into her life and Christ’s redeeming love.

Rev. Tom Slon, SJ, rector of the Jesuit Community, will preside at the 12:05 p.m. Mass with our very own director of public safety, deacon Wil Johnson, providing a homily. Rev. Jim Pribek will preside at the 8:30 p.m. Mass.

If you have any questions, contact Paul Stage in the Office of Campus Ministry at 888-2423 or at stagep@canisius.edu.

Digital Humanities Working Group

dh-griff-may16-av-300x207Canisius faculty who are interested in learning about or participating in the digital humanities are invited to attend the second meeting of the Digital Humanities Working Group on Friday, December 9, at 10:00 a.m., in Old Main 417.

Several faculty members are actively involved in or are directing digital humanities work.  The Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI) maintains a simple set of resources online at www.canisius.edu/dh in anticipation of further faculty interest in digital methodologies for (broadly defined) digital humanities.  Now it is time for those interested (or merely curious) about digital scholarship in the liberal arts, fine arts, social sciences and related fields, to come together to discuss what resources could be collectively cultivated, or perhaps provided by support offices, to further digital humanities at Canisius.

Hope to see you there!
