Jazz in the Sanctuary, sponsored by the Immersion East Side Speakers Series, will take place this Friday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Montante Cultural Center. The big band performance celebrates the 100th anniversary of Union Local 533, which formed Buffalo’s historic Colored Musicians Club.

Under the direction of George Scott ’80, the big band will play music and give insights into the union’s rich history. Many musical icons like Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Grover Washington were members of the Buffalo-based union.

The Canisius community is encouraged to attend. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information contact Devonya Havis, PhD, associate professor, philosophy, at havisd@canisius.edu.
