BanneFoundlings 09272016d Book Week, organized by Canisius archivist and special collections librarian Kathleen DeLaney ’73, was held this week in the Library. Several alumni shared their experiences during Wednesday’s program entitled “Whistle Stop.”

The group read from important historically banned or censored works before sharing their own works, including protest poetry, punk rock and riffs.

Capstone in Kinesiology Class Visits Museum of Disability

20160927_150651Capstone in Kinesiology (KIN 494) students visited the Museum of Disability History on Tuesday, September 28.  Students took a tour of the facility that included a comprehensive historical analysis of the disabled as a minority group from both a domestic and global context.  The presentation closed with a discussion about the role that sport has played historically in the advancement of disability civil rights.

Canisius to Host Six-Hour Defensive Driving Course

aaa-of-central-WNYCanisius College will host a Defensive Driving Seminar on October 4 and October 6 in Tower 205 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

The AAA Defensive Driving course provides tips and techniques on how to reduce risk through proper management of visibility, time and space, how to handle emergencies, and driver and passenger safety.

Licensed drivers receive certificates of upon completion that can reduce their insurance premiums for three years, and take up to four points off of their driving records for moving violations within the last 18 months.

ArtsCanisius Presents Art History Lecture

Join Canisius College’s art history program and ArtsCanisius as they welcome Claire Schneider, founder of CS1 Curatorial Projects, who will speak on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at noon in Regis Room South. The lecture, entitled “Curator as Forager, Caretaker, Incubator,” will involve Schneider’s experiences as a curator of contemporary art.

Her distinguished career as an associate curator for 10 years at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and as the senior curator at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art for two years, brought her back to Buffalo as she began to organize traveling exhibits and installations.  Schneider will discuss upcoming projects, including “Full Circle” and Nick Cave’s “Plenty.”  The lecture is free and open to the public.

Women’s Basketball Team Needs Male Practice Players

The Canisius College women’s basketball team currently seeks highly skilled and competitive male practice players for the upcoming 2016-17 campaign.

To be eligible, you must be enrolled as a full-time student at Canisius, pass a physical examination, have NCAA eligibility and have high school varsity basketball experience.

The selected players must be available to practice with the team several days per week from 6 p.m. −9 p.m., and will be expected to be competitive, knowledgeable and able to take direction from coaches, while assisting in the daily operations of practice.

This is a tremendous opportunity to continue playing basketball at an elite level, receive job recommendations and free Adidas practice gear, while learning from head coach Terry Zeh and his staff.

The first practice is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4, at 6 p.m. inside the Koessler Athletic Center.
