Workshops

The Center for Online Learning and Innovation (COLI) creates a lot of instructional videos using screencasting.  These videos, showing or demonstrating something on a computer screen with a voice narration, are a fantastic way to communicate with students, colleagues or clients.  With tools and web resources now available, screencasts are quite easy to create and install in web spaces such as Desire2Learn course sites or on department web pages. Faculty can quickly create video reminder messages or self-paced tutorials for students that save valuable classroom time for other more essential activities.  Staff can create tutorials and demonstrations that answer common, repetitive questions or requests.

As part of the “Google Apps Workshop” series in October, COLI is offering a workshop at which attendees can record their own videos using Screencast-O-Matic, a free screen-recording application.  The workshop will also cover the basics of using YouTube as a video hosting site, as well as how to embed YouTube-based videos into courses or other web spaces.

COLI also offers self-paced training tutorials – screencasts! – showing how to get started in screencasting. These are available on our YouTube Channel.
