Mark your calendars for a one day on-campus Leadership Development workshop scheduled for Monday, May 22 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., location TBA.

This year the college will be hosting an on-campus team-centered leadership development workshop for all Canisius College’s department chairs and program directors designed to enhance leadership skills and effectiveness.

Jonathan Millen, PhD, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Education and Sciences at Rider University will facilitate this interactive training comprised of case study-based sessions on topics tailored to our institution such as:  The Chair as Academic Leader; Resource Management; Recruitment, Retention and Development of Faculty; Managing People and Conflict; Faculty Evaluation; and Working with the Dean.

Dr. Millen earned his PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1992) in communication. He joined the faculty in the Department of Communication and Journalism at Rider in 1991 and served as department chair from 2005-2010.  In addition to teaching a wide array of communication courses, Millen also offers a mediation course for the Law and Justice Program, as well as a course on the social impact of rock and roll for the American Studies Program.  A past president of the New Jersey Communication Association and member of the editorial board of the Atlantic Journal of Communication, his research on conflict resolution has been published in Mediation Quarterly, Human Communication, and Human Systems.  Millen regularly serves as a facilitator for the CCAS Seminars.

The workshop promises to provide an opportunity to connect with each other while exploring ways in which to work collaboratively across colleges and departments to further the college’s educational mission in service of our students.

Both a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

I hope you will consider attending this unique development opportunity.
