Lizz Schumer is a new assistant professor in the Communication Studies and Journalism programs. She teaches narrative journalism and writing for the public media this semester. She previously served as an adjunct professor at Canisius College and is looking forward to getting more involved with campus life as a full-time professor.
Schumer is a journalist, photographer and creative writer whose work appears most frequently in the buffalo.com food section, The Buffalo News Gusto section and Buffalo Spree, as well as in a wide range of national publications and websites. She also serves as the social media and marketing/public relations director for Resurgence Brewing Company.
Schumer’s work often focuses on the stories behind the news: the people, historical context and sociological issues that live behind the headlines. Schumer’s first book, Buffalo Steel discusses these themes using a blend of reportage, lyrical narrative and poetry.
Schumer received her bachelor’s in journalism/mass communication from St. Bonaventure University and her master’s of fine arts in Creative Writing (MFAW) from Goddard College.
