coli_canisius_left_revTo support teaching, learning and administrative work, the Center for Online Learning and Innovation (COLI) offers new-format workshops focused on Google Apps, a powerful cloud storage, productivity and communications toolset.  Google Drive and related applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) are particularly helpful for collaborative work in the classroom, research and project team or committee efforts. Here’s some workshops available this Fall:

  • Google Apps Kickstarter: Start with an overview and orientation in Google Apps, with particular focus on Google Drive.
  • Google Apps Workshop: Deliver and Accept Files With Your Class:  Faculty can use Google Drive to quickly share files with students, collect video assignments, and create classroom activities and assessments built around student collaboration.
  • Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Session: Google Cardboard in the Classroom:  Professors will discover ways that students can explore parts of the world through low-cost, interactive 3D technology using common smartphones.
  • Google Apps Workshop: Screencasting with Screencast-o-Matic and YouTube:  Faculty can communicate with students in engaging, easy-to-record videos, from simply weekly reminder messages to complex digital tool demonstrations.

This year, COLI will issue digital badges for attendees at workshops.  These badges recognize participants’ completion of training in new digital tools and competencies.

Also, don’t forget our upcoming Online Course Development Workshop, facilitated by COLI faculty fellow professor Dennis Mike.  This is an ideal development opportunity for faculty planning to teach online or hybrid courses at Canisius College.
