img_0111

Join the Office of Student Life Monday, August 29 from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. in Koessler Plaza for the 3rd Annual Griffin Welcome Walk!

What is the Griffin Welcome Walk?
A special opportunity for faculty, staff and student leaders to welcome our students as they make their way to their first classes. Participants will be showcasing their Griffin pride, handing out bottled water, breakfast treats and offering words of encouragement!

What do I need to do?
Just show up! Meet the Office of Student Life representatives in the Koessler Plaza at 8:30 a.m. (you’ll know who we are…we’ve got SPIRIT). We’ll supply you with pom-poms, signs, blue and gold beads and more! Feel free to don your blue and gold!

Why should I participate?
This is an exclusive opportunity to be part of a Canisius campus tradition that our Canisius community looks forward to at the beginning of the school year each year. We need YOU!

Questions? Contact Brandon Pietron in the Office of Student Life at pietronb@canisius.edu or Ext. 8309.

Hiring Student Employees

In accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA), students are considered hourly employees and must be paid for each hour worked at an hourly rate that is equal to or exceeds the current minimum wage.

Undergraduate students may NOT be paid a stipend or flat amount; this includes work done for camps, grants or special projects. Some exceptions do apply for graduate students however; please check with the Payroll Office PRIOR to hiring the student.

All students are required to use the Web Time Entry to input hours worked on a time sheet.

All student employment paperwork must be delivered to Denise Rogers at least one week prior to the student starting to work.

Please call Denise Rogers with any questions regarding the student payroll at Ext. 8535.

Celebrate Mass of the Holy Spirit

Begin the school year in the Jesuit tradition!

Universities across the nation join in a time-honored tradition to welcome the new school year through a special Mass of the Holy Spirit on Thursday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m. This Mass is open to all faculty, students, staff and friends of Canisius regardless of faith background. The Mass is intended to celebrate our communal ties in light of the Catholic, Ignatian tradition upon which our university is founded.

Join the procession from Christ the King Chapel with your club or organization, residence hall floor, athletic team, close group of friends or come alone and make some new friends!

All student organizations present will be recognized and their leadership will be commissioned in front of the entire campus body. Organizations with high attendance may receive a special prize!

Mass will be followed by a free Chiavetta’s BBQ!

For more information, contact Paul Stage, associate campus minister, at 888-2423, Old Main 207, or stagep@canisius.edu.
