img_2109-rowboatIf you’re looking for something fun to do before the end of summer and the start of the fall semester, head over to Hoyt Lake, in Delaware Park. It’s here that an enterprising group of Canisius Enactus students is renting row boats for $10 per half hour.

The small business venture launched this summer when the Buffalo Maritime Center (BMC), which owns the row boats, offered Enactus students an experiential learning opportunity: Oversee the operational and financial management of the row boat rentals during peak season, and the student club can keep 90 percent of the revenue.

“It’s been a really great experience and one we hope Enactus can continue to manage next summer – and beyond,” says Marissa Watroba ’17.

Watroba, along with fellow Enactus students Sarah DiMayo ’17 and Annie Niland ’18, designed promotional T-shirts for the business and sell bottled water. Social media is their main form of marketing the row boat rentals, although they receive many walk-up customers from the park – including Hollywood actress Kate Hudson, who was in town recently to film the movie “Marshall.”

If you’re interested in supporting Canisius’ Enactus club, head over to Hoyt Lake. Boat rentals are available Tuesday – Friday, between 2:30 – 8:30 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday, from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m.
