Don’t miss the final concert of the ArtsCanisius season! ArtsCanisius presents the Buffalo Silver Band and Toronto’s Metropolitan Silver Band in a concert program entitled “Brass without Borders” this Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  Free-will offerings will be accepted in lieu of a ticket price.

The Buffalo Silver Band (BSB), directed by Bill Cocca, is one of only two British-style brass bands in New York State. Winner of Toronto’s Hannaford Festival of Brass in 2014, the BSB plays at many venues in Western New York and southern Ontario, including the University at Buffalo, the Albright-Knox, churches, summer park concerts and the Chautauqua Institution.  The band has been performing for the past 101 years and recently released a CD that includes the piece “Beecher Variations.”

Founded in 1931, the Metropolitan Silver Band (MSB) is associated with the Metropolitan United Church of Toronto. The only brass band in the United Church of Canada, the MSB is a vital part of the Met’s music ministry. In addition to playing the Met’s worship services six times a year, the MSB’s annual schedule of 18 events includes churches and concert venues in the greater Toronto area and beyond. The MSB released a CD of gospel music to celebrate its 80th anniversary.
