S-bowl MSA spotligthtThe Master of Sport Administration Program (MSA) held its 13th annual Bowl N’ Blast fundraiser on Sunday, April 24 at the AMF Airport lanes in Cheektowaga. The event raised $2,400, which was donated to the Special Olympics of Western New York.

S-bowl MSA extraThe MSA 650: Special Events in Sport class is offered each spring semester to educate students on their role to give back to the local community and get hands-on experience in organizing an event.  The class is formatted for students to be able to apply the information learned in class to the Bowl N’ Blast fundraiser at the end of the semester. Some of the topics covered in the course are budgets, sponsorship, marketing, pricing and social media.

The class is more than just the Bowl N’ Blast fundraiser because special events aren’t always fundraisers in a bowling alley. The class set up tours with MSA alumni in the area to see what kind of events the students can help to organize. Students paid visits to venues including the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts, the First Niagara Center and the Buffalo Niagara Court Center. Getting to see the behind-the-scene actions shows how different sporting events, concerts and fundraisers are organized by venues from the small to large.
