Andriatch ’86 Receives Marilyn G.S. Watt Award

Bruce B. Andriatch ’86, assistant managing editor of The Buffalo News’ feature section, is the recipient of the prestigious Marilyn G. S. Watt Award. Andriatch was recognized at a college ceremony on Tuesday, April 19.

Andriatch was recognized for his professional commitment to communication as an editor and reporter, his exemplary dedication to his students and his embodiment of the principles represented by the award.  The award, given annually since 1996, is granted to a graduate of the Canisius communication studies program, “For sharing a sense of community and values through communication.” Dr. Marilyn G. S. Watt chaired the department from 1982 until her passing in 1993.

During her service to Canisius, Dr. Watt served on the pre-law advisory committee, Women’s Studies Committee, Media Council and Continuing Studies Advisory Council.  She received awards from National Organization of Women (the Women Helping Women Award), the Erie County Citizen’s Award, the Scripps Howard Public Service Award and State University of New York’s “Woman of the Year in Communication.”  She produced two major television shows, “Ecumedia News” and “Challenge.”

Upcoming Maintenance for D2L

d2l_logo62Desire2Learn users may experience minor delays within the program today, April 26, as necessary maintenance will be installed. The maintenance is necessary for future upgrades in May.

On Thursday, May 19, Desire2Learn will be unavailable throughout the evening and overnight while a major upgrade is performed in time for the first summer session.

Faculty Participation in Commencement Week 2016

To reserve your spot for the Commencement Exercises, the Spring Honors Convocation and the Baccalaureate Mass, please fill out this brief form.

The form must be completed by Wednesday, May 11. It is very important that you reserve your spot to ensure you have a seat at the ceremonies.

The schedule for the Spring Honors Convocation, Baccalaureate Mass, Commencement exercises and related activities are listed on the Academic Affairs portal page and the Commencement website.

All faculty members are expected and encouraged to attend the ceremonies pertaining to the level at which they teach, since students look forward to having their mentors join them in celebration of their academic accomplishments.

Commencement Photo for Employees or Family Members

Employees of the college receiving a degree or who have a spouse or child receiving a degree, are welcome to have a complimentary family photograph taken immediately following the graduate and undergraduate ceremonies.

To request a photo, click here and complete the online request form. You will be notified of your photo time at a later date.

2016-17 Open Enrollment Announced

The Human Resources Department is pleased to announce the Open Enrollment schedule for the 2016-2017 plan year. Open enrollment will run from May 3 through June 10.

Open enrollment is the time to review all of your current benefit elections and make any changes during this time. Representatives from Independent Health, Pharmacy Benefit Dimension, NOVA and Guardian will review and answer questions regarding the plans.
