European Union Official to Speak on Campus

The Canisius College International Business Program, in cooperation with the International Relations and European Studies programs will be hosting a visitor from the European Union (EU).  Eric Leurquin, an official from the Committee of the Regions, will be on campus next Monday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 15. Leurquin will speak at an open session Monday at 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. in Old Main 204.  He will discuss the many interesting and important issues happening in Europe today.

Anyone interested in topics such as immigration issues, the possible exit of the United Kingdom from the EU, the financial impact of the further lowering of interest rates by the European Central Bank and the potential impact of new trade relationships between the United States and the EU are encouraged to attend.

Koessler Athletic Center ID Policy

In order to control access to services provided at the Koessler Athletic Center, Canisius faculty, staff and students must now show current ID cards to gain entry into the building.  The hours of the building during the semester are:

Monday – Friday       8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (swipe entry required from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.)

Saturday                      10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (swipe entry required from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)

Sunday                         1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (swipe entry required from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.)

ID cards must also be presented upon request.  Please be advised to carry your ID card at all times.

Koessler Pool to Close for Renovations April 4

The Koessler Athletic Center pool will be closed for major renovations from Monday, April 4, until the first day of classes of the fall 2016 semester – Monday, August 29.  The tile on the pool deck will be replaced and the pool will be completely re-grouted. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Canisius Hosts American Statistical Association Conference April 22-23

UP-STAT conference flyer 8.5x11-page-001Canisius is the proud host of the 5th Joint Conference of the Upstate Chapters of the American Statistical Association (UPSTAT-2016). This conference will be held April 22 & 23 and will bring together faculty and students from several upstate universities and from Canada to focus on data science, statistical practice, and education. The conference features presentations, tutorials, a panel discussion, and two presentations from the keynote speaker, Richard De Veaux, PhD. Professor De Veaux is a fellow of the ASA and a renowned author, consultant, and educator.

This conference represents collaboration among several STEM fields on campus, with faculty members from Canisius’ Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science, and Physics departments helping to organize the conference. Additional organizers include a number of local institutions: Roswell Park Cancer Institute, University at Buffalo, and Buffalo State.

Canisius students are strongly encouraged to present at this conference. This will be a great opportunity to showcase scholarship occurring on campus. Any thesis, project, or Ignatian Day presentation with a bit of statistical analysis would be welcome. There will be separate sessions for graduate and undergraduate students. Prizes will be given for the best presentations in each category. Fees for registration and the Friday night banquet will be waived for student presenters. The deadline for abstracts is Friday, March 11.
