Canisius-CFA-3For the sixth consecutive year, a team of Canisius College students took home first place in the CFA Institute Research Challenge of Western New York, held Monday, February 15 at SUNY Geneseo. Canisius secured its latest win over Cornell University (second place) and Geneseo (third place), as well as Niagara University, SUNY Fredonia, SUNY Oswego, the University at Buffalo, Syracuse University and St. Bonaventure University.

The Canisius team now advances to the America’s regional competition in Chicago on April 13-14, where it will compete with college and university teams from North and South America. The winner of the Americas regional competition then moves on to vie for the global CFA championship. Canisius College currently holds the CFA global championship title. Last year, a five-man team from the college’s Golden Griffin Fund (GGF) placed first over more than 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 865 universities in 70 countries to take home the CFA global championship.

“This competition provides our students with an opportunity to integrate their academic training in a team environment and become polished professionals at the very start of their careers,” says Richard A. Wall, PhD, professor of economics and finance and faculty advisor to the Canisius team. Wall is joined by Matthew Krajna ’12, MBAACC ’12 who is serving as the Canisius team’s CFA mentor throughout the competition. Krajna is a portfolio advisor with Nottingham Advisors.
