MontaroSince Laura Montaro marked her 15th anniversary at the college in 2009, her life at Canisius has changed rather dramatically. She was put in charge of orienting a new president, she saw the number of administrative associates in the president’s office cut in half, and she had the number of her bosses doubled. She has taken it all in stride, running the day-to-day operations of the President’s Office, and keeping the president on schedule and on track with a professional, cheerful and helpful manner. Laura is the principal administrative support for the college’s Board of Trustees. She maintains critical documents for the college. She is very often the person who answers the phone when a parent or a neighbor has vowed to go “straight to the top” to get an issue addressed. Her job requires patience, discretion and diplomacy, three of her best traits.

Laura’s Canisius career started in the Talent Search Office where she worked 14 years at increasing access to higher education for many disadvantaged students.

Laura is an avid Buffalo Sabres fan who suffered through this past season as the losses mounted. Besides hockey, she is a devoted gardener, a daily walker around the campus, and the mother of two adult girls – both Canisius graduates – and a son-in-law.

Did you know…Laura spent 24 years in the New York Air National Guard. She retired in August 1999 and was the first ever woman First Sergeant in what was then the 107th Air Refueling Wing.
