Several large media outlets reported on Mike Noonan’s recently released research on beluga whales.

The Huffington Post, Science Daily and Science World Report all ran stories about the research, which provides insight as to why belugas blow bubbles. In addition, Discover
Magazine and “Daily Planet,” part of Discovery Channel Canada, also interviewed Noonan for upcoming features on his research.

Mike Noonan, PhD, is chair of the ABEC program at Canisius. He collaborated on his research with Deb Burhans, PhD, associate professor of computer science, and Elizabeth George ’15.

Employee Christmas Mass and Luncheon

A Christmas Mass will be offered at 11:30 a.m. in Christ the King Chapel on Tuesday, December 23, followed by the employee Christmas luncheon from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Peter Gust Economou Dining Hall. Please take this time to visit with and enjoy the company of our college community as we come together to celebrate Christmas and the blessings of our friends and co-workers.

In the spirit of giving, members of the Canisius community attending the luncheon are asked to bring a non-perishable food item(s) to benefit St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy. The items collected will be used for distribution from their food pantry. In addition, St. Luke’s serves about 600 people a day in its dining room.

St. Luke’s does not receive money from the government or the diocese. Trusting in God’s divine providence, the ministry depends on donations from individuals like you. Drop-off bins will be located in the dining hall during the Christmas luncheon. Please help in any way that you can.

No RSVP is necessary. All but essential employees are released to begin their holiday immediately following the luncheon.

Happy Holidays!

Watch the December Episode of “Kaleidoscope”

The Canisius College Video Institute’s production of the December episode of “Kaleidoscope” premiered earlier this month on WGRZ-TV 2. This 30-minute television program celebrates the religious diversity of our region and is produced in conjunction with the Network of Religious Communities. “Kaleidoscope” will rebroadcast on Friday, December 18 at 6:35 p.m. on Time Warner Cable 20, and Sunday, December 20 at 8:00 p.m. on Time Warner 6 in Olean.

In the first segment, Stan Bratton, PhD, talks with Father Peter Drilling, rector of St. Joseph’s Cathedral in downtown Buffalo, about the meaning of Advent and Christmas and how the birth of Jesus is celebrated at St. Joseph Cathedral.

On the occasion of Mawlid al-Nabiy, the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, Bratton talks with Faizan Haq, founder of WNY Muslims, about the life of Prophet Muhammad and Islam in the world today.

Students in the Canisius College Video Institute produce “Kaleidoscope” under the guidance of Jamie O’Neil, associate professor of digital media arts and co-director of the Video Institute and Paula Angelis-Stein ‘86, MS ‘02.
