The Huffington Post reported on new research published by Christy Hoffman, PhD, assistant professor of animal behavior. The research examined “black dog syndrome,” which describes the difficult time dark-colored dogs are thought to have making it out of shelters and into homes.

Hoffman’s research looked at four years of adoption data from two animal shelters in the Pacific Northwest to see how black dogs fare compared to dogs of other demographics. Her results found that black dogs actually have shorter shelter stays when compared to different colored dogs.
