Canisius College will host Pulitzer-Prize winning photographer José Galvez on Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the Science Hall Commons. Please note: this event has been moved from Old Main 314 due to overwhelming response. Galvez will speak about his extensive photography career and show some of his work. The event is free and open to the public.
Galvez was the first Mexican American on staff at the Los Angeles Times. His photography documents the experience of Latinos and the expression of their culture in the United States. Galvez views his photography as not only a career but as a responsibility to capture the history of his people. He has collaborated with writers such as Luis Alberto Urrea and Patricia Martin. Galvez’s photography has been exhibited in museums and galleries in the U.S. and abroad.
Galvez’s lecture is co-sponsored by the Canisius College Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society, ArtsCanisius, Latin American Students and Friends (LASAF) and the Canisius College Diversity Board.
