Medicare’s 50th Birthday

There will be a ‘teach in’ about single-payer healthcare on Thursday, July 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the Science Hall Commons in honor of Medicare’s 50th Birthday. All are welcome to attend.

Watch the August Episode of “Kaleidoscope”

The Canisius College Video Institute production of the August episode of “Kaleidoscope” premieres on Saturday, August 1 at 5:30 a.m. on WGRZ TV 2. This 30-minute television program celebrates the religious diversity of our region and is produced in conjunction with the Network of Religious Communities. “Kaleidoscope” is rebroadcast each Friday at 6:35 p.m. on Time Warner Cable 20 and each Sunday at 8:00 p.m. on Time Warner 6 in Olean.

In the first segment, Ray Eigen Ball, coordinator of the Buffalo Zen Dharma community, talks about Zen Buddhism and dispels some of the misconceptions about his religion.

The second segment features a conversation with Kathleen Castillo, director of theological field education at Christ the King Seminary and Sam Giangreco, a student at the seminary, about the field education program and preparation for the priesthood.

Campus Shredding Day is August 20

Canisius will be holding an on-campus shredding day on Thursday, August 20. Lincoln Archives will be at the following campus locations to shred any documents faculty and staff may have.

– Koessler Athletic Center
– Health Science
– Science Hall
– Lyons Hall
– Churchill Tower/Bagen/Old Main
– Agassiz

In addition, Lincoln Archives will be dropping off shredding totes at the entrances of the above locations on Thursday, August 13. These totes will be locked and can be used to deposit any shredding materials for the week up to August 20.

Exact times for each location will be posted closer to day of event.

First Annual Chemistry and Biochemistry Summer Research Symposium

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry held its first annual Chemistry and Biochemistry Summer Research Symposium on Wednesday July 22. More than 70 students, alumni, family members, faculty and administrators attended the poster presentations given by 17 Canisius research students. The students presented results from their research carried out this summer under the guidance of the chemistry faculty.

Details about departmental research projects can be found here. Following the symposium, all in attendance were invited to a barbeque picnic.

Medical Laboratory Science Majors Graduate

Canisius students completing the medical laboratory science major graduated from their clinical program at Rochester General Hospital on Friday, July 24.

Daniel Carver received the Zygmunt M. Tomkiewicz, MD, Award for academic achievement for earning the highest academic grades in the program.
