The local premiere of the new movie She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry (directed by Mary Dore) will be hosted at Canisius College in the Science Hall Atrium on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, 6:00-8:00 p.m. This documentary film explores and dramatizes the modern women’s movement from 1966-1971.
She’s Beautiful traces the events from the founding of NOW, with ladies in hats and gloves, to the emergence of more radical factions of women’s liberation (Marxist and Black Feminism); from intellectuals like Kate Millett who wrote about sexual politics to the street theatrics of WITCH (Women’s International Conspiracy from Hell!).
This is an important film that shines light on how women banded together to produce a discourse and a plan of legal action that would ultimately result in greater civil rights for women in the educational, social and economic spheres of American society.
This movie premiere is sponsored by the Women & Gender Studies program at Canisius College. Event is free and open to the public.
