Eileen Angelini, PhD, professor of French, will present the Spring Archives Speaker Series Lecture in the ALB Library on Wednesday, March 25 at 3:30p.m.

Angelini will focus on the Ku Klux Klan’s (KKK) threats against Quebecois immigrants in New England in the first half of the 20th century, using excerpts from the documentary film “Réveil”, for which she served as historic consultant.

Although the KKK is most closely associated with violence against blacks in the American South, they also pervasively terrorized those living in northern locales from Milo,Maine, to Buffalo, where they often targeted white immigrants. Historic documentation discovered for this film echoes today’s debates about immigration, assimilation and language.

Angelini received her bachelor’s degree in French from Middlebury College, and her master’s degree and PhD in French Studies from Brown University. She has been the recipient of a Canada-U.S. Fulbright Award as a Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Globalization and Cultural Studies at McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada), and in 2012 was named Chevalier dans l’Ordres des Palmes Académiques.

The Archives Speaker Series features scholars whose works rely on archival research, and those who have produced an expression of scholarship based on archival research.

Sponsored by the Canisius College Rev. J. Clayton Murray, S.J. Archives & Special Collections, and the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library, the event is free and open to the public.
