Shoes for the Shelter 5K Applications Now Available

Are you looking forward to the time this spring when you can get outside for a nice walk or jog and not have to worry about either being run down by a snow plow or taking a tumble on the ice? Well, believe it or not, the Canisus Shoes for the Shelter 5K, presented by Independent Health, is seven weeks away.

It’s a great course that begins and ends in the vicinity of the Koessler Center. The post-race party features one of the best yogurt bars you will ever see and the camaraderie among students, faculty/staff and the running community is phenomenal. It’s a must-do event on the Canisius calendar that everyone can participate in. Walkers, joggers and runners are all encouraged to join in the fun. Gary Everett, director of public safety,  will be the race’s official starter.

The date of the event is Sunday, April 19 and starts at 10 a.m. Applications are available online at gogriffs.com, or call 888-2977 and we will send you one.

In addition, don’t forget to start collecting your old shoes. We have received 29,000 pairs of shoes since 2002 and we look forward to adding another 4,000 plus pairs this year. Drop boxes will be visible across campus after spring break.
