Battle of the Bridge Blood Drive Begins Today

Ever wonder how you can play a part in the annual Battle of the Bridge competition that takes place between Canisius and Niagara? Well, your chance begins today (Monday, February 23) and runs through tomorrow (Tuesday, February 24) with the annual blood drive, presented by Unyts.

Students on both campuses will be donating blood that goes to save lives in Western New York. Faculty and staff at Canisius and Niagara are also encouraged to join in the effort. The winning school will be recognized at the nationally-televised basketball doubleheader scheduled for the KAC on Tuesday night.

Remember it only takes 30 minutes of your time to save someone’s life.

Body Transformation Program to be Offered by Independent Health

Independent Health will offer a program titled “Body Transformation” to all faculty and staff of the college. This eight-week program is designed for people who currently follow a structured exercise program that incorporates a minimum of moderate intensity resistance training and aerobic activity, or for those who have experience with such programs and want to get in better shape and change their body compositions. The goals of the program are to increase your strength, muscle tone and endurance, while decreasing your percentage of body fat. The Body Transformation program incorporates moderate-intensity aerobic activity, muscle strengthening resistance training and healthy nutrition. A booklet and tracker are included.

Dawn Kordylewski, corporate wellness specialist from the Independent Health Wellness Department, will provide a short introductory presentation each hour followed by body composition assessments (height, weight, BMI, body fat percentage using BIA machine). The body composition assessment will take about 5 minutes.

A final assessment will take place in  mid-April. Anyone who loses one percent of body fat or reduces his BMI by one point will be entered into a raffle for prizes.

Sessions for the presentation and assessments will be held:
• Tuesday, February 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Library Conference Room
• Wednesday, February 25, 1 p.m.-4 p.m., Library Conference Room
• Thursday, February 26, 1 p.m.-4 p.m., Science Hall Room 1017
