Canisius Video Institute Premieres 1812: By Fire and Sword Film and Virtual Exhibit
The Canisius College Video Institute will premiere 1812: By Fire and Sword on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 7 p.m. at The Buffalo History Museum, 25 Nottingham Court, Buffalo, NY. Prior to the screening at 6 p.m., Town of Tonawanda historian John Percy will give a lecture on the Battle of Queenston Heights. A Q&A and reception will follow the screening. The event is free and open to the public.
1812: By Fire and Sword, is a narrative film and virtual exhibit features local re-enactors and professional actors telling the stories of The Burning of Buffalo, Red Jacket, Laura Secord, Cyrenius Chapin, General McClure and other key events that characterized The War of 1812 in the “Niagara Theatre.” The five short films were made with The Buffalo History Museum in conjunction with its exhibit, By Fire and Sword: War in the Niagara Theatre, 1812-1814 on view at the museum through June 2014. The Canisius College Video Institute students conceptualized and created an interactive “virtual exhibit.” As museum guests approach By Fire and Sword artifacts, they touch Google Nexus tablets to view the film re-enactments inside the context of the museum experience. More than 30 historians, consultants, technicians and actors, including more than a dozen Canisius students, participated in the 1812: By Fire and Sword project. The 1812: By Fire and Sword project was supervised by Jamie O’Neil, associate professor and director of Digital Media Arts and co-director of The Canisius College Video Institute.

Informally-Formal Chamber Recital Tonight (11/19)!
ArtsCanisius presents Daniel Kerdelewicz, French horn, as the featured performer of the next Informally~Formal Chamber Recital tonight, Tuesday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.
The recital will include a performance of Franz Krommer’s Octet, Op 71, Christoph Förster’s Konzert for Waldhorn, two violins, viola and basso continuo arranged for horn and piano, and Eugène Bozza’s – En Forêt op. 40.
A native of Poland, Kerdelewicz has won multiple horn competitions in his home country. In 2009, he joined the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra as associate principal horn for a one-year term and was named to the position permanently in 2010. Kerdelewicz was recently named guest associate principal horn of the Pittsburgh Symphony for a one-year term. Kerdelewicz will be joined by an ensemble made up of musicians from the Buffalo and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestras.
Tickets for this concert are $15 general admission and $7 for students and can be purchased at the door or online here.

The iPad Users Group will meet on Wednesday, November 20 in SH-1053. Please note that this is a room change. We will now be meeting in our new, upgraded classroom. Should be fun.
