Public Forum: Avitation

A Middle States accreditation working group needs your help!

You are invited to a public forum on Tuesday, October 8 from 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and to a second forum the following day, Wednesday, October 9, 9:15-10:30. Both will take place in Regis North. Please join us for a discussion of Canisius College’s engagement with general education, or what our Middle States accreditor calls “Standard 12.”

The working group which will demonstrate that the College meets this Standard is preparing to answer four “Research Questions.” These Questions (listed below) guide our efforts to demonstrate that Canisius meets this standard. We seek information from all corners of the College. What documents or other evidence do you know of that can help us demonstrate how Canisius meets this Standard? At this forum we (the working group for this Standard) will listen to you! We need to learn about what evidence exists that can demonstrate all the ways in which the College meets this general education standard.

What Research Questions do we need to answer?

  1. What evidence exists that the institution’s graduates meet expected, acceptable levels of competency in oral and written communication, scientific and quantitative reasoning, technological capability, information literacy, and critical analysis and reasoning?
  2. How effectively are general education requirements and academic program requirements linked and interrelated? How effectively is general education linked to the College’s mission?
  3. How well does the current process for proposing, approving, delivering and reviewing core courses function? How well do we assess our general education outcomes?
  4. How well are core curriculum requirements communicated to the public and to members of the College community?
