Under the Dome welcomes the following new faculty members who joined the Canisius community this fall.

Robyn L. Brouer, PhD, assistant professor of management joins Canisius College from SUNY Buffalo where she was an assistant professor in the School of Management since 2009. Brouer has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in human resource management, organizational behavior and principles of management at SUNY Buffalo, Hofstra University and Florida State University.  Brouer obtained her PhD in business administration from Florida State University and MS in management from the University of Central Florida.

Kathleen M. Contrino, PhD, visiting assistant professor of criminal justice, comes to Canisius College from Buffalo State College where she was professor of criminal justice. In addition, Contrino has also taught as adjunct professor of criminal justice at SUNY Buffalo and Canisius College.  Contrino holds a PhD in sociology and a JD from SUNY Buffalo and both her MS and BS in criminal justice from Northeastern University. Her doctoral research focused on sociology of law, addiction and drug courts.

Steven A. Gattuso ’87, MBA ’88, executive director of the Golden Griffin Fund, joins Canisius College from Wilmington Trust/M&T Bank Corporation where he served as assistant vice-president, portfolio management. Gattuso taught for 12 years at the College of Business at Niagara University and worked for seven years as a senior financial analyst at the State University of New York. Gattuso obtained both his MBA in finance and BA in economics from Canisius College. He is a certified chartered financial analyst (CFA), a certified financial planner (CFP) and a certified management accountant (CMA.)  Gattuso currently serves as president of the CFA Society of Buffalo.

Jonathan M. O’Brien, PhD, assistant professor of biology, comes to Canisius College from the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where he was the Mackenzie Foundation post-doctoral fellow since 2009. O’Brien previously taught graduate and undergraduate biology courses at Kansas State University and the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. He holds a PhD in biology from Kansas State University and obtained both his MS in forest resources management and BS from the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Jonathan D. Rodgers, PhD, post doctoral fellow for the Institute for Autism Research (IAR) comes to Canisius College from Jacobs Neurological Institute at Buffalo General Hospital where he has been a research fellow/post-doctoral fellow since 2011. Rodgers has worked at Canisius as an adjunct faculty since 2011 and as a senior research coordinator for the Canisius College Connections Summer Program (now SummerMax) from 2009 – 2010. He obtained his PhD in counseling and school psychology from SUNY Buffalo and his BA in sociology and psychology from Cornell University.

Andrew D. Stewart, PhD, assistant professor of biology, joins Canisius College from the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology at the University of California-Santa Barbara as a post-doctoral fellow and lecturer. Stewart received his PhD in biology from Emory University and a MS in biology from the University of Texas, Arlington. He specializes in population genetics and macroevolution.

 

Malini Suchak ’07, PhD, assistant professor of animal behavior, ecology and conservation (ABEC) came to Canisius as an adjunct professor of ABEC in 2012. Suchak is a 2007 graduate of Canisius College with a BA in biology with a minor in animal behavior. She obtained her PhD in neuroscience and animal behavior and MA in psychology from Emory University where she worked as a laboratory instructor and dean’s teaching fellow. Suchak’s doctoral research focused on the study of chimpanzees and other primates.

Paul Yan, PhD, assistant professor of economics and finance, joins Canisius College with more than 10 years of experience teaching finance courses in universities internationally including McGill University and Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, NTU in Singapore, Southeast University in China, and Loyola University Maryland and Hofstra University in the US. Yan obtained his PhD in finance from McGill University and an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada.
