Canisius Presents Lecture By Expert On Catholic Church

Rev. Thomas J. Reese, S.J., senior fellow at Georgetown University’s Woodstock Theological Center, will speak at the college on Tuesday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge on the second floor of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center. Father Reese’s lecture, entitled “Catholic Identity in the 21st Century,” is free and open to the public. The event is presented by the Institute for Global Study of Religion (IGSOR) at Canisius College.

At Georgetown, Father Reese is also director of the Woodstock International Visiting Fellows Program. Father Reese is a widely-recognized expert on the U.S. Catholic Church and his scholarship focuses on religion and public policy.  He served as editor of America, the national Catholic weekly magazine, for nearly seven years. In this role, Father Reese encouraged discussion and debate on issues facing the Catholic Church and the world.

Father Reese is also the author of a trilogy of books that examine church organization and politics on the local, national and international levels: Archbishop: Inside the Power Structure of the American Catholic Church, A Flock of Shepherds: The National Conference of Catholic Bishops and Inside the Vatican: The Politics and Organization of the Catholic Church.

Employment Contracts Online

Shoes for the Shelter 5K Registration

Reminder that registration is open for the annual Shoes for the Shelter 5K Run/Walk. Date of the event is Sunday, April 14 at 10 am. There is a pre-race mass at 8:30 am in the Patrick Lee Center and a post race party featuring Tim McAllister’s band, The Keepers. Prizes will be given for the top three males and females registering as faculty/staff.

Time Warner to Carry Hockey Game Live on Saturday

The Time Warner Sports Channel has announced they will carry the Griffs opening game in the NCAA ice hockey tournament live on Saturday afternoon. Game time is 5:30 pm against top-ranked Quinnipiac. The winner of that game will play either Boston College or Union on Sunday evening.

Time Warner will distribute the game to its Buffalo, Rochester, Central New York, Capital District and Manhattan affiliates. The game can also be seen live on espn3.

Baseball Hosts St.Bonaventure on Wednesday

Your Canisius baseball team is reaching the midway point of its season this week. The Griffs host St. Bonaventure at the Demske Sports Complex at 3 pm Wednesday afternoon. Get your spring break off to a rousing start by catching a little baseball before you head home.
