Shoot and Score Winner Kelly Lambert

Kelly Lambert has worked at Canisius since last August as an Information Literacy Specialist Librarian. She won Sabres tickets through this entry in the Shoot and Score contest:

“Canisius brought me home. Born, raised, and educated in Buffalo, I finished my degree in Library Science in 2002. Just a few weeks after graduation, I became part of the Buffalo ‘brain drain’ when I moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in pursuit of what I thought would be greater opportunities. While living out of state, I was fortunate in my career as an academic librarian and was able to visit Buffalo twice each year. Leaving Buffalo gave me great perspective on my life, and I realized that the sense of family and community found in Buffalo far outweigh the material gains found elsewhere. When I had my baby girl in 2010, the decision became clear: I wanted to get back home.

“Buffalo has a tight job market, and openings for academic librarians are few. Finally, the perfect position for my skills and experience opened at Canisius this past summer. Being a part of the Canisius community was always in the back of my mind. My father is a Canisius alum, obtaining both a Bachelor’s in Accounting in 1974 and an MBA in 1988. He always talked about how much he loved his time at Canisius, and wanted this experience for his seven children as well. I applied for the posted position and an invitation to interview was extended. I am so thankful to have been offered both a position that I love and the opportunity to come home. I am now part of both the Buffalo ‘brain gain’ and the Canisius community. Thank you Canisius for bringing me home. I thank you. My parents, grandparents, siblings and friends thank you. Perhaps most importantly, my daughter thanks you! I will always be grateful. Go Sabres!”

Kelly won two tickets to a Sabres game. Your next Sabres game could be on us too. You can enter and win by submitting an example or story that best reflects the Canisius experience. It could be a short story about a student, professor, class, project or activity on or off campus. It could involve you or someone else. We want to hear about service projects, internships, clubs and people that go the extra mile and deserve recognition. Submissions can be made through www.canisius.edu/studentsurge.

Students, faculty and staff can also purchase tickets at the discounted price of $25 each. Tickets are available for most home games and available in the Office of Campus Programming and Leadership Development in the Student Center.

ArtsCanisius Lecture Today

Take a midday break with Carole Harris, PhD, as she presents “Women and Opera: She performs, She composes, She conducts” on Monday March 4 at noon in Regis North. This event is free and open to the Public

Down through the ages, women have been thought of mainly as divas in opera, but women’s roles, especially today, branch far out of that diva-box. Dr. Harris will explore the fascinating roles of women in opera, from the 1600’s through the present.
