Canisius to Host Reading, Reception for Cochrane’s Fitz

Canisius College will host a reading, reception and book signing to celebrate the publication of Fitz, the latest book by Mick Cochrane, PhD, professor of English and Lowery Writer-in-Residence. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Tuesday, November 13 at 7 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge.

Fitz is Cochrane’s first young adult novel and fourth book. It is the story of 15 year-old Fitzgerald (“Fitz” to his friends), who learns that his father, who supports him but whom he has never met, is living nearby. Fitz begins to follow him, watch him, study him, and on an otherwise ordinary May morning, he executes a plan to force his father, at gunpoint, to be with him. Over the course of a spring day, Fitz and his father become real to one another. Fitz learns about his father, why he has chosen to remain distant and what really happened between him and Fitz’s mother. And Fitz’s father learns what sort of boy his son has grown to become.

Copies of Fitz will be available for sale at the event from Talking Leaves, Buffalo’s oldest independent bookstore. For more information, contact Cochrane at Ext. 2650 or visit his website here.
