Campus Spotlight: Father Tom Colgan, S.J.

The Jesuit community at Canisius includes Father Tom Colgan, S.J., who has worked in campus ministry for six years. Each year he and a team of spiritual directors lead about 25 faculty, staff and students through the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuits.

The Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life are a form of prayer designed to help individuals grow in union with God, freeing them to make good decisions in union with God’s dream for their lives and to help others. The process at Canisius, which is designed differently for each person, includes one-on-one meetings with a spiritual director throughout the academic year and a monthly group luncheon to build community among those involved. The process culminates in a spring assessment with a public panel discussion for those who feel comfortable summarizing the gifts of their retreat–to share how they’ve benefitted.
