The Women in the Arts Festival continues today (March 1), at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center with Buffalo’s own Ladies First Big Band. The Band was created by bassist Jennifer May and is the 2010 winner of the Buffalo Music Award-Best Jazz group. Get out the dancing shoes and get ready for a real treat as the Ladies First Big Band makes its first visit to Canisius. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students, and can be purchased online or at the door.

The following events continue throughout the weekend:

  • Friday, March 2, 7:30 p.m., Christ the King Chapel — organist Barbara Harbach and Canisius College voice majors Jena Abati, Rachael Bosak and Emily Yancey highlight “Women Organ Composers from the Renaissance to the Present” and vocal works by Barbara Harbach and 19th Century composer Louise Reichardt. Admission is free.
  • Saturday, March 3, 7:30 p.m., Montante Cultural Center — The Alabaster Box Gospel Choir, Karen E. Williams, director presents a program entitled “ALABASTER BOX: The Gospel According to HER!” Admission is free.
  • Monday, March 5, noon, Regis Room South — the festival closes with a music lecture given by Barbara Harbach, PhD, professor of music, University of Missouri at St. Louis, which highlights “21st Century Women Composers.” Admission is free.
