Jamie Tworkowski, founder of the organization “To Write Love On Her Arms” (TWLOHA) will speak on campus on Thursday, February 23 at 7 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  All students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to attend this very special evening which will include musical performances by Eric James, Under the Skylight and Canisius’ own Inlite.  This event is free and open to the public.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

TWLOHA is an organization that has started a movement on college and university campuses across the nation that is dedicated to helping those who suffer from depression, addiction, self-injury and suicidal tendencies find hope, support and love.

Beginning in 2006, Tworkowski founded TWLOHA as the simple attempt to tell the story of a friend in need.  TWLOHA quickly became an internet phenomenon with the aid of various social media outlets and is now truly a global movement.  Supported by bands such as Switchfoot, Anberlin, Paramore, Anthony Raneri and Eric James, TWLOHA spread in the music world, from venue to venue, and became known all over the world.  Now, with the largest online audience of any non-profit on Facebook and MySpace, the organization has donated nearly $500,000 to help fund treatment, responded to thousands of messages from over 40 countries, and has been featured on NBC’s Nightly News and Today Show, Rolling Stone and more.

This event is part of the Campus Programming & Leadership Development Leadership Series and made possible through various sponsors which includes CPLD, TWLOHA Canisius and the William H. Fitzpatrick Institute.  Canisius College invites all students, faculty, staff and members of the community to attend this very special evening with TWLOHA as Jamie begins a conversation of pain and hope along with musical performances by Eric James, Under the Skylight and Canisius’ own Inlite.
