More than 300 members of the Canisius community have participated in the readiness to change survey and approximately 150 members of the Canisius community have participated in the health screenings, the latest initiative for the college’s GrifFit Wellness Program. As part of the strategic plan, Canisius has partnered with Independent Health to offer a comprehensive health and wellness initiative that stresses the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of the members of our campus community.

For those who completed the Individual Health Screening last month, the next step is to fill out a Health Assessment Questionnaire. For those who did not complete the screening, it is not too late to join the GrifFit Program. You can start by completing the Health Assessment Questionnaire. In addition, our own Dennis Koch, associate professor of kinesiology and director of health and human performance, has volunteered to conduct blood pressure screenings during the spring semester. The HIPPA protection of confidentiality will be applicable.

The confidential Health Assessment Questionnaire provides information that will help Independent Health identify programs that best meet the health needs and interests of our college community. Even those who are not Independent Health participants are encouraged to complete the health assessment. Paper copies are available in the Human Resources Office for those who are not enrolled in a college health plan. A postage paid envelope addressed to the Wellness Department at independent Health is included. Independent Health participants can access instructions to complete the assessment here. Please note that the college does not receive individual health information.
