The Canisius College men’s basketball team plays its home opener this Friday (December 2) at 7 p.m. in the Koessler Athletic Center against an extremely talented quintet from Iona College.  Iona is the preseason favorite to win the MAAC and has already knocked off Maryland by 26 points and St. Joe’s in overtime.  The Gaels lead the country in scoring at 94.3 points per game and feature one of the top point guards in the nation in Scott Machado (19.8 points, 12.8 assists).

Canisius will counter with its all-junior backcourt featuring Harold Washington (18.3 points), Alshwan Hymes (16.3 points) and Gaby Belardo (11.0 points).

The game is presented by Wendy’s with all Canisius students receiving free Wendy’s food and Frostys at halftime.  Tee Shirt University will toss free shirts into the crowd and Just Pizza will present the loudest group of fans a free pizza.  Students will also be able to sign up for one of two digital cameras that will be given away free at Sunday afternoon’s basketball doubleheader.
