Five dollar foot-longs will officially be on the menu at Canisius when classes begin Monday, August 29. Students will enjoy an enhanced dining experience that features the addition of a Subway franchise and a 2.mato restaurant located in the Old Main Café (the newly-remodeled Old Main Lounge). The menu enhancements are a result of students advocating for additional dining options.

“I believe Subway will be the busiest place on campus and the first choice on everyone’s lunch menu,” said Royshawn Sessum ’12. Sessum, Taryn Spencer ’12 and Essence Porter ’12 are orientation leaders who sampled a Subway lunch last week with President John J. Hurley.
Sessum said he enjoyed talking with the president about the future strategic plan and campus renovations over lunch. “We also talked about orientation training and about how excited we are to meet the largest freshman class we’ve had in years.”
“It’s always nice to sit down and talk casually with President Hurley,” said Porter. “It’s not always about business and it shows how much he enjoys developing friendships with the students at Canisius,” added Spencer.
Subway offers a delicious menu of fresh, made-to-order sandwiches and the pizza and pasta-themed restaurant 2.mato offers classic Italian favorites, as well as healthy alternatives. A variety of soups from Au Bon Pain will continue to tempt soup lovers at the Old Main Café location.
The Upper Deck, located on the second floor of the Palisano Pavilion also underwent renovations this summer and will reopen next week as Iggy’s, named for St. Ignatius Loyola. Iggy’s features booth seating, pendant lighting, hardwood floors and flat screen TVs, along with healthy menu options.
The college’s popular Tim Horton’s franchise opened in 2009 and is located in the Bouwhuis Library.
