A lecture entitled “Civil War, Genocide, Peace and Secession: The Current Situation in Sudan” by John Prendergast, co-founder of “The Enough Project,” will be given during the ninth annual Human Rights Conference on Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge.  This lecture is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by Canisius College Amnesty International, International Affairs Society, Justice in Action, William H. Fitzpatrick Institute of Public Affairs and Leadership, and NYSUT.

“The Enough Project” is an initiative to end genocide and crimes against humanity.  An activist with more than 25 years of experience promoting peace and working to secure recognition of human rights for all in Africa, Prendergast is one of the few experts on the situation in Darfur, Sudan, the Congo and Uganda.

Prendergast has worked for the White House under President Bill Clinton, the State Department, UNICEF, Human Rights Watch, International Crisis Group and the US Institute of Peace.  An author/co-author of 10 books, Prendergast has been a visiting professor at countless colleges and universities including Stanford University, Columbia University, and the American University in Cairo, and has been awarded six honorary doctorates.  He is also a board member of Not On Our Watch, an organization founded by George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Brad Pitt, which aims to end human rights violations.  Most recently, Prendergast launched the Satellite Sentinel Project with Clooney to raise awareness of combustible regions in order to prevent conflict and human rights abuses through the use of satellite imagery.
