The Annual Canisius College Sports Hall of Fame ceremonies highlight a busy weekend for the men’s basketball team. The Griffs host league-leading Fairfield at 7 p.m. on Friday (January 21) before meeting Iona at 2 p.m. on Sunday (January 23).
Fairfield’s game is Pepsi White-Out Night with all fans encouraged to wear white shirts. In the team’s last meeting, the Stags held off a furious Canisius rally to eliminate the Griffs from the 2010 MAAC Tourney.
Sunday’s festivities begin at 11 a.m. with brunch in the Grupp. Six inductees will join the Griffs Hall of Fame including former cross country coach Dan McNaughton; cross country and track distance runner Tom Appenheimer; the first volleyball player ever inducted Erin Oveis Brant; men’s lacrosse standout Jason Cummings; hockey star Josh Oort and softball pitcher Kristina Chavez Gnacinski. To reserve your spot at the brunch, call Ext. 2703. The six will be officially recognized at halftime of the Iona contest.
For tickets, call Ext. 2885 or visit www.gogriffs.com for additional information.

The Canisius College Chorale invites students, faculty and staff to join its ranks for its upcoming Spring season of concerts. The group’s first rehearsal will be on Monday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Rehearsals will continue each Monday evening at the same time. Auditions are not necessary for membership and all are welcome.
The course numbers for Chorale are FAM 181 (CRN: 40136) for one credit and FAM 171 (CRN: 40133) for zero credits.
The chorale ended a very successful Fall season that included performances throughout Western New York. Its acclaimed “Sacred Spaces” series brought hosts of eager listeners to a number of the region’s most beautiful and historic churches. The choir’s annual Winter Concert drew a capacity audience to the college’s Montante Cultural Center again this year. The coming season’s activities include performances in some of the region’s finest concert venues. Consider membership in the Canisius Chorale!
