Heather Pesanti, curator at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, will present “Beyond/In Western New York: Alternating Currents” today (October 21) at 2:30 p.m. in the Regis Room.  This event is free and open to the public.

Pesanti’s illustrated presentation is about the recently-opened contemporary art exhibition, “Beyond/In Western New York: Alternating Currents,” a curatorial collaboration between 12 regional museums and galleries.  This biennial event presents the work of outstanding artists from Western New York, Southern Ontario, Northeastern Ohio and Northwestern Pennsylvania.  For the first time, it will feature the work of artists from outside the region to blur the local with the global and challenge the assumptions of what these distinctions mean today.

While the entire scope of the exhibition will be covered, the lecture will focus in particular on the projects located in and around the Albright-Knox Art Gallery including site-specific, newly-commissioned, and avant-garde work by artists such as Kai Althoff, James Carl, Ken Cosgrove, Andy Goldsworthy, Joan Linder, Josh Reiman, Penelope Stewart, and others.
