The Inauguration Committee invites all members of the Canisius community to attend A Celebration of Scholarship tomorrow (October 14) from 1 – 3 p.m. in the Regis Rooms of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center.

As one of the first events of Inauguration Week, A Celebration of Scholarship will show that teaching and learning are always the central mission of the college.  Highlights will include examples of outstanding faculty scholarship and faculty-student engagement which are among the hallmarks of Jesuit higher education.  Master of ceremonies for this event will be Scott A. Chadwick, PhD, vice president for academic affairs.

The schedule includes:

1 – 1:20 pm — “Where Entrepreneurial Leaders are Made” (with CEO, Can Do Society and MyLinkFace); Ji-Hee Kim, PhD, associate professor of entrepreneurship, management and marketing

1:20 – 1:40 p.m. — “The Electronica Project: Science Meets Art;” H. David Sheets, PhD; chair & professor, physics; Jamie O’Neil, associate professor, digital media arts

1:40 – 2 p.m. — “Enhancing the ‘Informed’ in Informed Consent: A Pilot Test of a Multi-media Presentation;” Melissa Wanzer, EdD, professor, communication studies

2 – 2:20 p.m. — “Autism Spectrum Disorders: Research and Treatment;” Christopher Lopata, PsyD, associate professor, education; and Marcus Thomeer, PhD, associate professor, education

2:20 – 2:40 p.m. — “What is the University?;” Tanya Loughead, PhD, assistant professor, philosophy

2:40 – 3 p.m. — “The Civil Rights Movement Up Close and Personal;” Bruce Dierenfield, PhD, professor, history, director of All-College Honors program.

3 p.m. — Concluding Remarks by John J. Hurley, president.  A reception will follow in Grupp Fireside Lounge.

Faculty members are encouraged to bring their classes for all or part of the celebration.
