Canisius College is observing National Drive Safely Work Week and reminds all faculty, staff and students that deadly crashes involving drivers distracted by talking and texting while driving highlight a growing danger on local roads.
According to the Department of Transportation, more than 5,400 people died in 2009 on our roads as a result of crashes involving a distracted driver. To eliminate these distractions for your safety in commuting to and from the Canisius campus, please follow these guidelines:
- Turn cell phones off or put them on silent or vibrate before starting the car
- Pull over to a safe place if a call must be made or received while on the road
- Inform everyone you frequently speak with on your cell phone that you won’t be answering calls while driving
- Don’t text while driving
